Summary

This website is built to collect as little data as possible. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, uses no analytics or tracking, has no contact form and loads no fonts, scripts or images from other companies. The only exception is the optional map in the coordinate tool, described below. If you email me, the section on email contact applies.

Hosting

The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data such as your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser’s request headers, to deliver the website and protect it from attacks. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a secure and working website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Cloudflare acts as my processor under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). Data may be processed in the USA; Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). Cloudflare keeps this data only as long as needed for these purposes; details are in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Data you enter into the tools

Values you enter into the tools, and files you open in them (such as CSV files in the coordinate tool), are processed only in your browser. They are not sent to me or to any server.

Map in the coordinate tool

The map loads only after you click “Load map”. It then requests map images from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom), which receives your IP address and the map area requested. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by reloading the page; the map then stays off until you load it again. The United Kingdom has an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR). See the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s privacy policy.

Contact by email

If you email me, I process your email address, your message and any details you include, in order to reply. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR) or, for job enquiries, steps before a possible employment contract (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). Your message is stored in my mailbox at my email provider, which processes it on my behalf, and is deleted when it is no longer needed for the conversation, unless legal retention periods apply.

Links, for example to LinkedIn, are ordinary links. No data is sent to those websites until you click a link.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where processing is based on legitimate interest, you may object to it on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21). You may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77), for example the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
